The "PFAS-Free Greaseproof Paper" project, jointly submitted by Zhejiang Hengda New Material Co., Ltd., Zhejiang Hengchuan New Material Co., Ltd., and Heshan Detpak Paper Packaging Co Ltd. has been selected as a Meituan Qingshan Environmental Technology Innovation Demonstration Project - "Innovation China".
Meituan is one of the biggest Chinese shopping platform for locally found consumer products and retail service, including delivery, entertainment, dining, travel and other services.
The "PFAS-Free Greaseproof Paper" project applying a small amount of functional additives to the surface sizing of the paper machine, giving the paper excellent greaseproof performance while maintaining the porous structure of the paper, thereby maintaining the taste of the food in the takeaway packaging. This paper is completed in the machine, without the need for subsequent processing steps, and has the characteristics of energy saving and environmental protection, high production efficiency, and strong feasibility. The final packaging product has good processability, excellent printing effect, and good printing ink fastness.
Hengda New Material has finished a 20,000tons/year PFAS-Free food packaging paper production line, and will complete the technology development and the echo-environmental benefit report of PFAS-Free greaseproof food packaging paper and implement the product's practical application in takeout businesses.
The project review committee believes that as more and more European and American countries implement PFAS regulations, PFAS-Free greaseproof paper is an industry trend and can better improve the safety of oily food in takeaway scenarios. Compared with existing PFAS-Free alternative solutions, the technology for producing PFAS-Free greaseproof paper in paper machines provided by this project aims to achieve a balance between greaseproofness and breathability of the paper while meeting performance requirements, reducing paper basis weight and greaseproofing agent usage, and achieving the social and environmental benefits of reducing paper consumption in packaging.
Under the guidance of the China Association for Science and Technology (CAST), Meituan has partnered with the CAST Ecological Environment Industry to launch the "Innovation China" project. The project aims to promote environmental protection through science and technology, lead innovation through demonstration, promote green development in the industry, and build a beautiful China together.
